Craig Gruber is a bass player best known as the first bassist in rock band Rainbow. Along with the other members of Rainbow, except guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, he had played in the band Elf, consisting of vocalist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Mickey Lee Soule, drummer Gary Driscoll and guitarist David Feinstein. Elf released three albums before they all joined Blackmore in his newly formed Rainbow. David Feinstein later formed his own band The Rods. Craig Gruber played on Rainbow's first album Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Soon after the album was released, the entire band was sacked except for Ronnie James Dio.
Craig Gruber also played with Gary Moore on Moore's 1984 album We Want Moore. In 1980 he formed Bible Black with former Elf and Rainbow drummer Gary Driscoll. The band produced two albums before Driscoll's murder in 1987.
