Crida

Crida (Creda) (7th century), widow, patron of Creed (Cornwall). Of Irish origin, supposedly the daughter of Senach Ron, king of Leinster, who was a friend of Canice, Crida was raped by a robber and gave birth to the future St. Boethin. But she persevered in the religious life and founded churches at Kilcredy (Upper Ossory). She presumably came to Cornwall with Finbar or other missionaries of his period, rather than with the earlier group of Sennan, Ia, Erc, etc. A fresco of Crida, who wears a crown and holds a sceptre, much restored, survives at Lanivet church. Feast in Cornwall ‘on the Sunday nearest 30 November’.
