Accounting Dictionary: Critical Path

Longest path for a project. This is the minimum amount of time needed for the completion of the project. Thus, the activities along this path must be accelerated in order to speed up the project. On the other hand, delays in these activities would cause delays in the project. It is thus important to identify the critical path. See also Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT).
