Crocker-Amazon, San Francisco, California

Wikipedia: Crocker-Amazon, San Francisco, California

The Crocker-Amazon is a neighborhood in San Francisco bordering the Excelsior District. Crocker-Amazon covers the area south of Mission Street and Geneva Avenue, extending toward suburban Daly City. The neighborhood is adjacent to Crocker-Amazon Park, named after the Charles Crocker land holdings that once made up the area and Amazon Street in the Excelsior. The streets of this neighborhood straddle the border between San Francisco and Daly City, hence the Crocker-Amazon largely blends in with the adjacent Daly City neighborhoods of Crocker and Southern Hills.

The Crocker-Amazon neighborhood is slightly less affluent than the Excelsior, but retains much of the same racial diversity, including a large Filipino community. Since many San Franciscans are unaware of its existence, house prices in Crocker-Amazon tend to be more reasonable than in other, better known sections of the city. There is a certain suburban feel to this commuter neighborhood, although the houses are as tightly packed together as those in other areas of San Francisco. The neighborhood benefits from some of the best weather in the city; the late afternoon fog breaks over the Excelsior, causing Crocker-Amazon to have more sun than most other sectors of San Francisco. The top of the neighborhood boasts outstanding views of downtown San Francisco in the gap between McLaren Park and Twin Peaks.

The neighborhood is well served by public transportation. MUNI Routes 8X, 8BX, 54 serve the Geneva corridor and the 43 bus serves Geneva, Naples and Munich. The Balboa Bart station is only 7 minutes driving or about 10 on any of the mentioned MUNI bus routes.
