A mast cell stabilizer which, if administered prior to exposure to allergens, prevents degranulation and release of histamine in a hypersensitivity reaction. Administered as an aerosol for prophylaxis of bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. Investigated for use in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in horses. Called also cromoglycate.
