Biography

Blending Cypress Hill's weed philosophy with a self-styled hopalong hip-hop sound based on the Old West, Chicago's Crucial Conflict hit the airwaves in 1996 with the marijuana ode "Hay." Members Wildstyle, Kilo, Coldhard, and Never grew up on Chicago's West Side and began rapping as a way to pass time on the mean streets. Signed to the UNIV label in 1996, the foursome hit the R&B Top Five with the June release of The Final Tic, which went gold later that year. Good Side, Bad Side followed in 1998. After ten years of label conflicts and time spent collaborating on local projects, Crucial Conflict returned with Planet Crucon in 2008. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Crucial Conflict is a Chicago hip hop group best known for its 1996 single "Hay" (from the album The Final Tic) and "Scummy" (from the album Good Side, Bad Side). The members of Crucial Conflict are Coldhard, Wildstyle, Kilo, and Never. They frequently collaborate with fellow Chicago rappers Do or Die and Twista. They recently finished their album Planet Crucon, with their newest single, "Barn Fire".

Crucial Conflict, with the help of Do or Die, made the Chicago rap community more visible. With fast-paced raps, the band was compared to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, with whom they later ended up feuding. When the smash hit "Hay" was released, it improved the sales of the band's album The Final Tic.

They have collaborated and worked with such artists as Three 6 Mafia, Do or Die, Twista, R. Kelly, 2Pac, Warren G, The Outlawz, George Clinton, Project Pat, Da Brat, Busta Rhymes, DJ Quik, Big Sha, ACE The Yung Heavy and many others. Crucial Conflict has also recorded tracks for movie soundtracks such as How To Be a Player, Rhyme & Reason, Belly, and Thicker Than Water. They also made a brief cameo appearance in the 1998 Hype Williams movie Belly, which starred DMX and Nas.

Return of the Conflict

In 2006, they announced that a new album was in the works entitled Planet Crucon. They had released a song on the radio called "In The Circle" in 2004 and it was a major hit in the Midwest. In March of 2006, they released a track called "Barn Fire" around the nation. They had announced that their album was coming out in August 2006 but it never got released. The reason for that was because of a new upcoming artist from Chicago. That artist is Lupe Fiasco and his album got released in September and since Aug. and Sep. are in the same music quarter, the industry decided to postpone Planet Crucon's release and go with the new artist. Now, they are back and are getting ready for Planet Crucon, which is now scheduled for January 29, 2008. They even have a collaboration with funk legend George Clinton on a track called "By The Time". They have also been shooting a movie that is coming soon entitled The Set Up. All under BuckWild Records Entertainment. Wildstyle is handling most of the production for the album. In December of 2007, Never of Crucial Conflict recorded a local hit song entitled "Ballin Out" on the album The Prescription, with Flip Flop Recording artist ACE The Yung Heavy, protege' of Triple Darkness producer Da Wreck. Member Wildstyle has recorded a new song called "Poppin Off" with Lupe Fiasco who like Wildstyle is a Chicago native.
