Biography

Uncharacteristically walking the chronologically inverse route from death to thrash metal, Holland's Crustacean formed in 1989, and initially went by the misrepresentative name of "Crystal Lake." Eventually, five years, a few demos, and many musician changes later, the renamed group found their true calling as a traditional thrash band in the image of Slayer, for whom a few of the members had started a tribute band which helped pay the bills. As Crustacean, vocalist/bassist Tom Paulusse, guitarists Ferry Damen and Miche Meeuwissen, and drummer Joris van Iersel recorded their debut EP Headcleaner in 1995, then proceeded to unleash a series of neo-thrash releases well into the next decade, including 1998's full-length Burden of Our Suffering, 2000's Satanized EP and 2003's Insaniac album. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
