Plot

In the wake of the death of rookie criminalist Holly Gribbs, Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) is sent back to the homicide division and Grissom (William L. Petersen) is appointed head of the CSI. Having assumed that she would be assigned to investigate Holly's killing, Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) is upset when the case is put in the hands of a newcomer to the unit, Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox, in her first series appearance).
