There are many scenic traffic roads through the forests around Chantilly for cyclists who like to stick to smooth surfaces. From the Route de l’Aigle (south of the Hippodrome), follow the D924 to the D138 for a casual ride toward Senlis through two tiny villages. Sportier types can follow the designated forest trails from the Carrefour des Lions all the way down to the Coye-la-Forêt, passing through one of the most beautiful sections of the forest, the Etangs de Commelles. There’s only one bike rental company in the area (just below Coye-la-Forêt, see Getting Around, page 415), so be sure to make reservations in advance or bring a bike up from Paris.
ATTENTION!Be sure to stay clear of the sandy alleys while the race horses are training (mornings), as they can get spooked by cyclists.
