Biography

Rore was a court and town musician in Parma, Venice and Ferrara. Known mostly for his madrigals, his talent was demonstrated in his creative settings of Italian lyric poetry, employing advanced polyphony in an expressive fashion. Despite the innovative turn his works often took, his efforts were the result of artisic creativity rather than theoretical analysis. The developments contained in his compositions earned him the respect of his peers as well as those of later generations. ~ Lynn Vought, All Music Guide
