D-8 Armored Car was a post World War I armored vehicle built in the USSR. The design was based on the GAZ-A. It was a next phase follow up to the Soviet BA-27M developed in 1931. It would be replaced by the FAI armored car during World War II.
Design
The vehicle had an open-top. A two-man crew sat back to back so that the rear man could fire a rear-mounted machine-gun. Limited numbers were built by the Soviets from 1932 to 1934.
Combat History
The D-8 was first used by Republican forces in the Spanish Civil War. D-8 was delivered as part of the USSR’s military aide to the Republic against the Nationalist. It was also used by the Finish Defense Force during the Winter War against the Red Army
