(Digital 3) A 1/2" broadcast-quality composite digital videotape format designed for recording uncompressed digital versions of analog NTSC or PAL. D3 VTRs sample composite video at four times their subcarrier frequency (4FSC). Similar in purpose to D2 equipment, D3's half-inch format lent itself to more applications. See D2 and D1. The D3 (Danish Electronic Entertainment Expo) is the first electronic entertainment expo in Northern Europe, and the first edition is being held at Øksnehallerne in Copenhagen. The expo is noted for its presence of all three of the big next-generation consoles, the Xbox 360, the Wii and the Playstation 3.
