Biography

Out of a 40,000-strong field of aspiring vocalists and rappers, six people became the focus of MTV's Making the Band series during 2003. Babs (Lynese Wiley), Dylan (Dylan John), Freddrick (Frederick Watson), Ness (Lloyd Mathis), Sara (Sara Stokes), and Young City (Rodney "Chopper" Hill) were handpicked to become part of P. Diddy's Bad Boy empire. The group's debut album, 2003's Too Hot for T.V., was prefaced with a season's worth of drama-filled Making the Band episodes, which documented the cheesecake runs, in-fighting, and recording sessions that led up to its release. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Da Band was a group put together by P. Diddy. After months of selections and training, Diddy chose the members of Da Band on Making the Band 2. For several weeks the group was subjected to vigorous and sometime demeaning tasks, including walking from midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn to purchase a Junior's cheesecake for Diddy, and Elliot Ness' battle with Harlem MC Jae Millz. Their debut album, Too Hot for TV, was released in September 2003.

Da Band was widely criticized as fraudulent by a few hip hop fans, due partially to the fact that Diddy often embarrassed them throughout the filming of the show. Da Band effectively ended their career on the Season Three finale, when Diddy dissolved the group.
