Daniel Waters

Waters, Daniel (1731-1816) Revolutionary War naval officer. Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Daniel Waters began the Revolutionary War fighting in the Battle of Lexington (1775) with a company of militiamen. He commanded a gunboat in the siege of Boston in 1775 and took several prizes with a schooner in 1776. The next year he was commissioned a captain in the Continental navy, beginning a number of cruises on various sloops and privateers. In command of the Boston privateer Thorn in December 1779 he defeated two British privateers of equal armament. After the war he took up farming in Malden, Massachusetts, where he died.
