Danisco A/S (OMX: DCO) is a Danish food production company. They sell a wide variety of pharmaceutical grade excipients. Headquartered in Copenhagen, the group employs approximately 10,000 employees in more than 40 countries and reported revenue of DKK 20.36 billion in 2006/07. The company's shares are listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange and are a member of the blue chip OMX Copenhagen 20 index.
Danisco is one of the world's largest producers of ingredients for food and other consumer products, and is also one of the biggest sugar producers in Europe. Recently however, Danisco has said it is investigating the possibility of selling their sugar division[2]. Among the potential buyers are both industrial investors and a group of Danish sugarbeet farmers[3], however an IPO also remains an option.
Research and development
A considerable proportion of the employees are engaged in research and development of new and more consumer friendly products for the international food industry. Today, the Group holds more than 2,000 active patents and patent applications.
