Biography

A fine drummer, Danny D'Imperio is best-known for his leadership and recordings with the Metropolitan Bopera House and his own groups. He picked up early experience playing with the Glenn Miller ghost band (1970-1972) and two years apiece with the orchestras of Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman. He subbed for Buddy Rich when Rich was ill in 1983, was the house drummer at Condon's, and has freelanced quite a bit, but it is his V.S.O.P. recordings (which often feature obscure bop and hard bop songs being revived with enthusiasm) that have given D'Imperio a certain amount of fame. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
