Dansgaard-Oeschger (D-O) cycles

Very rapid climate changes—up to 7 °C in some fifty years—during the Quaternary period, and especially during the most recent glacial cycle. Evidence for such cycles comes from oxygen isotope records in ice cores, which indicate the very rapid onset of interstadials. The cause of D-O cycles has yet to be comprehensively established.
