Das Wormser Konkordat
Wormser Konkordat, Das, an agreement between the Emperor Heinrich V and Pope Calixtus II which brought to an end by a compromise the long dispute known as the Investiture Contest (see Investiturstreit). It was proclaimed on 23 September 1122 after deliberations at Worms lasting a fortnight. The Emperor agreed to renounce the right of investiture of bishops with the spiritual insignia of ring and crozier; but elections of bishops were to be made in the Emperor's presence.
