Dasein

(German, existence, being there) Being in the world, characterized by Heidegger in terms of affective relationships with surrounding people and objects. This primary mode of being is falsely split, in the Cartesian tradition, into a self-contained inner world and an independent outer world, bearing only problematic relations to one another.
