(computer science) A manual or automatic device that connects data-processing machines to one another.


 
 

A switch box that routes one input line to an output line; for example, to connect two computers to one printer. Manual data switches have dials or buttons. Automatic switches test for signals and provide first-come, first-served switching. See A/B box.
