Storylines

Footballer career

David lived with his parents, Ida and Frank Barlow and older brother, Ken. He was an apprentice engineer, who wanted to persue a football career. He left Weatherfield for his new career in 1961. He returned for his mother's funeral on 13 September 1961, but watched from a distance.

He returned for a visit in 1963, but didn't think he could fit in with the locals, so left.

Relationship with Irma Ogden

After being suspended from football for being suspected for taking a bribe, he arrived back on Christmas 1964 and went to live with Ken and his wife, Valerie. He was later cleared in February 1965, deciding to stay with Ken and Valerie and date Irma Ogden, daughter of Hilda and Stan Ogden. David was also contracted to write a football gossip column in the Weatherfield advertiser. They married and bought the Corner Shop in 1966, running it until emigrating to Australia in 1968.
