David Bates is a groundsman and former professional cricketer.
Born in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Bates played at second XI level for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Durham County Cricket Club before becoming the head groundsman at Harrogate Cricket Club. He then proceeded to do the same job for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and was the chairman of the First Class Groundsman.
He is now an adviser to the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Institute of Groundsmanship.
