David Bell is Permanent Secretary at the British Department for Children, Schools and Families. He took up his post on 3 January 2006. He was previously Chief Inspector of Schools at the Office for Standards in Education. He succeeded Sir David Normington on his move to succeed Sir John Gieve as Permanent Secretary at the Home Office.
