Biography
A well-respected costumer who helped design the wardrobes of My Fair Lady (1964) and Cleopatra (1963), David Berman made numerous contributions to both film and television. After beginning his career with London's esteemed Max Berman & Sons, he relocated with his family to Hollywood to open another branch of the family business. During WWII, his services were enlisted by the British government when he was asked to design authentic-looking Nazi uniforms for a successful espionage mission; he did decidedly less political work for any number of post-war TV shows, including I Love Lucy, The Carol Burnett Show, and The Danny Thomas Show. Berman also made costumes for the stage, outfitting, among many others, the cast of Annie Get Your Gun. During his heyday in the 1950s and '60s, it was alleged that just about every costume on the Las Vegas stage had its origins in Berman's Hollywood business. Berman graced the stage of his own life until the age of 90, when he died of natural causes at his home in Santa Monica on March 2, 2000. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, All Movie Guide
