David Cochrane

Wikipedia: David Cochrane

David Cochrane is the preeminent[citation needed] political reporter in Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently works with CBC Television news, after an initial career with CBC Radio, responsible for covering the provincial legislature.

He received his bachelor of arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1997 with a double major in English and History. While in University, Cochrane worked as the news editor for his student newspaper, The Muse.

In 1998 he worked with Canadian University Press as the Ottawa Bureau Chief. The CBC took interest in Cochrane while he was writing columns for The Telegram, Newfoundland and Labrador's daily newspaper. His CBC career began as a summer job and became full time employment.

He has described his role as a reporter as "part-gossip, part-detective." He has broken a number of stories about political happenings in the province. In early 2007, he gave an address[1] to the St. John's Board of Trade that critiqued the habit of provincial politicians using the legislature to change the ground rules in various confrontations with industry and business.
