Biography

A group consisting entirely of performers named David Evans would have something many other groups do not: an oboe player. This David Evans has been credited as "Dr." David Evans when appearing as part of the orchestral production on recordings by Shelleyan Orphan. While it is no stretch to conceive of an oboe player with a doctorate, this double-reed player should not be confused with the Dr. David Evans who has created a huge body of research and recordings of American roots rock. For one thing, that Evans is American, while the oboe player is British. It is furthermore impossible for him to be the same person, since a Dr. David Evans who played oboe would not have had the time to do all the other things that the American Dr. David Evans is credited with -- he would have been too busy carving reeds. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
