David Kirschner (born March 23, 1960) is an American film and television producer, particularly of animated features. He is the namesake of his company, David Kirschner Productions.
After studying at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, David Kirschner once worked as an illustrator of Muppets and Sesame Street characters, and created the children's book series Rose Petal Place.
Kirschner's breakthrough production was the 1986 animated feature An American Tail, a film later followed up by a theatrical sequel (An American Tail: Fievel Goes West), a television series, and two direct-to-video sequels.
David was also an executive producer for some Hanna-Barbera and Nelvana cartoons and creator of Gravedale High, Fievel's American Tails and Pirates of Dark Water.
Kirschner also produced all five movies in the Chucky series, for which he designed the titular character.
Other notable productions include 1997's Cats Don't Dance, winner of the 25th annual Annie Award for Best Animated Feature. [1]
Kirschner's most recent work is 2006's Curious George, based upon the book series of the same name. Two more of his movies were recently released: a film adaptation of the novel The Martian Child, and a biopic of Beatrix Potter entitled Miss Potter.
Earlier in his career, Kirschner designed the cover art for Neil Diamond's The Jazz Singer.
