David of Sweden

David of Sweden (also called David of Munkthorp) (d. c.1080), bishop. An English monk, he was attracted to the Scandinavian apostolate by the example of Sigfrid, bishop of Vaxio (Sweden), whom he joined, and then worked in Vastman-land, building a monastery at Munkthorp. He is usually described as the first bishop of Vasteras, He worked long and hard in his missionary work and died peacefully in old age, whereas he had hoped for martyrdom like Sigfrid's nephews. Miracles were reported at his tomb. Feast 15 July, or in some calendars 25 June (translation).
