Schirmer, David (Pappendorf nr. Freiberg, Saxony, 1623-1687, Dresden), studied in Leipzig and in Wittenberg under A. Buchner. In 1647 he became a member of the Teutschgesinnte Genossenschaft (see Sprachgesellschaften). In 1649 (or 1650) he was appointed court poet in Dresden and in 1655 court librarian. His work includes love poems, Rosen-Gepüsche (1650), Singende Rosen (1654), a collection of songs with music by Philipp Stolle, and Poetische Rauten-Gepüsche (1663) which contains his work for the Dresden court. This includes occasional poetry as well as texts for ballets, operas, and dramas.
