David Westlake is a British singer/songwriter.
Westlake was the driving force behind The Servants. They featured on the influential New Musical Express C86 cassette with the song, "Transparent". After the Servants split, having released two singles, Westlake recorded an eponymous LP in 1987 on Creation Records. This was followed by a brief reunion lineup which featured Luke Haines (The Auteurs) on guitar.
Disenchanted with the music business, Westlake spent the next few years listening to classical music and studying law.
In 2001, while on a short break to visit friends in Dublin, Westlake met up with musician, Cormac Moore, and de-camped to Moore's homeplace of Kilkenny to record "Play Dusty For Me" — featuring the guitar talents of Dan Cross (formerly of The Perfect Disaster), Moore on bass guitar and Wurlitzer, and his brother Willis Moore on drums. The 16-track album took a week to record, and was released independently in 2002. Though critically acclaimed, it has not had a wide release, but may be purchased
Westlake is now lecturing in English at Brunel University
