Character actor David White is best remembered for playing advertising executive Larry Tate on the popular '60s sitcom Bewitched (1964-1972), but he began his career as a movie actor in 1957 with The Sweet Smell of Success. David White (April 4, 1916 – November 27, 1990) was an American stage, film and television actor. His television credits include the role of Larry Tate in Bewitched, which he played from 1964 until 1972.
He married actress Mary Welch, by whom he had a son, Jonathan White (born July 14, 1955). Jonathan White died at the age of 33, a victim of the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.
In 1958, Mary Welch White died during a second childbirth.
Career
In 1964 White got the role of the Machiavellian advertising executive Larry Tate on Bewitched, which he played for the show's entire run (1964 - 1972). This is the role for which he would be best-known during his life and posthumously. The role of Tate's boy Jonathan was named after the actor's son. He performed in numerous TV shows in the 1960s, such as Bonanza and Dick Tracy. David White was also in two episodes of the original The Twilight Zone, "I Sing the Body Electric" and "A World of Difference". He also played J. Jonah Jameson in the pilot episode of the TV series The Amazing Spider-Man.
