Review

One of Britain's best DJs since the late '80s mixed this two-disc set of modern club-culture touchstones, and the track listing includes dozens of seminal moments for both house and techno: "Move Your Body" by Marshall Jefferson, "French Kiss" by Lil' Louis, "Love & Happiness" by River Ocean, "Fired Up!" by Funky Green Dogs, "I Can't Get No Sleep" by Masters at Work Featuring India, "Generate Power" by DJ Pierre's Photon Inc., Derrick May's remix of "Sueño Latino," "Throw" by Carl Craig's Innerzone Orchestra project, Ron Trent's "Altered State," and Slam's "Positive Education," among others. Much better than on a straight collection, though, Rampling puts 15 years of dance history into a measurable mix, one that skates from track to track and connects the dots between the techno anthem "Throw" and the raw house workout on "Generate Power." Some of these tracks are tough to find on their own too, a fact that only magnifies the attraction to Decade of Dance for house/techno fans interested in getting a great mix along with their history lesson. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
