(chemistry) Loss or removal of calcium or calcium compounds from a calcified material such as bone or soil.


 
 
Geography Dictionary: decalcification

The leaching out of calcium carbonate from a soil horizon by the downward movement of soil water. It is an early stage in the formation of a soil, and is generally accompanied by humus formation and followed by acidification.

 

Loss of calcium or calcium salts from bone.
