Biography

Formed in 1996, when the average age of members Sauron (vocals), Vogg (guitar), Martin (bass), and Vitek (drums) was just 14, Decapitated have quickly gained recognition as one of Poland's, and even Europe's, finest exponents of ultra-technical death metal. These talents they perfected over the course of demos Cemeterial Gardens (1997) and The Eye of Horus (1998) before signing with Earache's Wicked World imprint for the release of their 2000 debut, Winds of Creation, which in turn led to a successful bout of U.K. touring in support of grindcore merchants Lock Up. The following year's The First Damned resurrected those early demos for official release, and ever improving follow-up efforts like Nihility (2002) and The Negation (2004) have only heightened the group's international profile since. Of note, starting in 1999, Vogg and Martin have also been involved with acclaimed Polish black metal band Lux Occulta. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

Decapitated is a technical death metal band from Poland. Their music and lyrics place them towards the more extreme and technical side of the genre. They formed in 1996 in Krosno in southern Poland, when the average age of the band was fourteen and all the members were still attending music school. They released their first demo Cemeterial Gardens in 1997 and their second demo, The Eye of Horus in 1998. After these releases, the band was considered as genuine contenders of the underground metal community, and eventually signed with Wicked World/Earache Records for the release of the debut album, Winds of Creation. With "Vitek" (aged 18) and "Vogg" (being aged 22) they are one of the youngest bands in the genre to have had success. "Martin" and "Vogg" conjointly hold gigs with the Polish experimental symphonic/technical black metal band Lux Occulta. Decapitated also toured the UK upon the release of Winds of Creation, and in light of a phenomenal response, the band was led to being voted "Best Newcomer" in Terrorizer Magazine's 2000 Reader's Poll, and a further European tour in 2001 with Immolation continued to contribute to the band's musical reputation.

Band history

Decapitated released their first demo, Cemeterial Gardens, in 1997 and released their debut album, Winds of Creation, three years later. Its successor, Nihility is a more condensed, brutal and technical album, with an almost industrial guitar tone.

Their 2004 album The Negation, and their latest, Organic Hallucinosis, both have a fuller, more classical death metal tone. In summer 2005, "Sauron", the band's vocalist, quit the band, due to "health complications", according to Sauron. Replacing him is a vocalist by the name of Covan, a previous member of Atrophia Red Sun. Currently Decapitated are signed to Earache Records. Their latest album, Organic Hallucinosis, was released on the 13th of February 2006. "Martin" rejoined Decapitated after the army wanted him due to conscription in Poland and nearly faced going to court despite the rumours of problems concerning the label - which were untrue.
