Decibel Audio Player is an audio player written in Python which aims at providing a clean and straightforward user interface for the GNOME desktop environment. The author states that providing many features should not mean creating a complex and counter-intuitive graphical interface.[citation needed]

Modules
Most features are implemented as modules that can be enabled or disabled. As of version 1.00, the available modules are:
- Audio CD - Allows playing of CDs.
- Audioscrobbler - Submits played music to Last.fm
- Covers - Retrieves ad displays album art from the hard disc or Last.fm
- Desktop Notification - Alerts the user to the name and artist of a newly playing song.
- File Explorer - Allows for exploring music based around folder structure.
- Instant Messagenger Status - Updates the online status based on the currently played song.
- Library - Allows for exploring music based on artist and then album.
- Status File - Saves playing status to a file for use by an external program.
- Status Icon - Adds an item to the notification area.
