Decibel Audio Player is an audio player written in Python which aims at providing a clean and straightforward user interface for the GNOME desktop environment. The author states that providing many features should not mean creating a complex and counter-intuitive graphical interface.[citation needed]

Modules

Most features are implemented as modules that can be enabled or disabled. As of version 1.00, the available modules are:

  • Audio CD - Allows playing of CDs.
  • Audioscrobbler - Submits played music to Last.fm
  • Covers - Retrieves ad displays album art from the hard disc or Last.fm
  • Desktop Notification - Alerts the user to the name and artist of a newly playing song.
  • File Explorer - Allows for exploring music based around folder structure.
  • Instant Messagenger Status - Updates the online status based on the currently played song.
  • Library - Allows for exploring music based on artist and then album.
  • Status File - Saves playing status to a file for use by an external program.
  • Status Icon - Adds an item to the notification area.
