Deco on the fly

In SCUBA diving, deco on the fly (DOTF) is a simplified method for carrying out necessary decompression stops while on the move rather than halting at a depth stationary. Examples of its use would be spend a 10 minute stop at 6m swimming about a reef or swimming through a cave passage at a particular depth rather than waiting motionless for the decompression stop to end. It is often confused with ratio deco which is a mechanism for identifying patterns in decompression tables which allows a diver to make decompression decisions without the use of in-water dive computers. It is taught in advanced technical diving courses held by instructors of the training organization Global Underwater Explorers.
