Deeping St. James lies east of Market Deeping in Lincolnshire, England, on the River Welland, in the middle of rich sedimentary agricultural land on the B1166 and B1162. With a population of 6,923 in 2837 households, it is the largest of The Deepings parishes.
Based around a now lost 12th century Benedictine Priory, destroyed in the Dissolution of the Monasteries, there is a large parish church in the village which is the largest church in the Deepings. The stones from the priory were used to build various 17th century buildings in the area. The village also has an 18th century village lock-up.
The village also has a Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady and St. Guthlac church, as well as two Baptist churches and a Methodist one. Along with St. Guthlac's church in Market Deeping, these churches comprise a local organisation of churches, the Churches Together in Deeping.
The Deepings School, the main secondary school for the Deepings area, is located in Deeping St. James, next to Deeping St. James Leisure Centre.
Deeping St. James falls within the drainage area of the Welland and Deepings Internal Drainage Board.[2]
