Defeat Autism Now (DAN!) is a network of physicians, researchers and scientists who endorse alternative, non-standard treatment approaches, such as chelation therapy, for autism spectrum disorders.[1] The organization started in in 1995 under the auspices of the Autism Research Institute (ARI).
History
Invited by ARI, approximately thirty selected physicians and scientists convened in Dallas in January, 1995, to share information and ideas for defeating autism as quickly as possible. One major goal of the inaugural DAN! conference was to produce a document that could be used by physicians as a guide for the clinical assessment of autistic patients, leading to appropriate treatment. In 1996, DAN! participants released the first edition of its treatment protocol manual, entitled 'Biomedical Assessment Options for Children with Autism and Related problems'. Also known as the 'DAN! Protocol', the manual reviews treatment options and physicians that are trained in the DAN! protocol.
