(medicine) A chronic joint disease characterized pathologically by degeneration of articular cartilage and hypertrophy of bone, clinically by pain on activity which subsides with rest. Also known as degenerative arthritis; hypertrophic arthritis; osteoarthritis; senescent arthritis.
