Dehradun (Hindi: देहरादून) About this sound pronunciation is a district of Uttarakhand state in northern India. The district headquarters is Dehradun, which has also served as the provisional capital of Uttaranchal since its founding in 2000, and may well become the permanent capital. The district has 6 Thasils(Similar to Towns), 6 community development blocks, 17 cities and 764 populated villages. In addition, there are 18 such villages where no one lives. This city, situated 230 kilometers from the capital of the country has a rich ancient history. Full of natural beauty, this city is also known for its many famous educational institutions.
