Deinocrates

Hellenistic architect, supposedly the designer of the city of Alexandria, laid out on the most lavish lines. He was reported by Vitruvius to have proposed reconstructing Mount Athos into a gigantic carved image of Alexander the Great. He may have been (with Paeonius) the architect of the last great Ionic temple of Artemis at Ephesus (from 356 bc).
