Delamere Forest or Delamere Forest Park is a forest in the Cheshire West and Chester area of Cheshire, England, managed by the Forestry Commission. It includes over 9.5 square kilometres (2,300 acres) of mixed deciduous and evergreen forest making it the largest area of woodland in Cheshire.[1][2]
Nearby places are Delamere, Cuddington, Norley, Frodsham and Helsby.
The B5152 road bisects the forest. Numerous footpaths meander through it, including parts of the Sandstone Trail, Delamere Way and Baker Way long-distance footpaths. There are several short-distance circular walks that go around the forest, all clearly marked out and all starting/ending near the Linmere Visitors Centre. These include the green trail (1.7 miles), the red trail (2.7 miles) and the blue trail (4 miles). There is also a white trail (7 miles), which can be walked but is primarily intended for cyclists. Many cycle routes go through the forest and there is a large area of dirt cycle jumps for extreme sports enthusiasts. The forest is served by Delamere railway station, with the visitor centre a short walk away.
Since 2003 the forest has served as a music venue, playing host to performers including Ian Brown, The Charlatans, Jools Holland, Status Quo, Sugababes, Paul Weller, The Zutons, Doves and Elbow.
It is also the site of Britain's largest Go Ape facility. This includes numerous zip wires, Tarzan swings, tightropes and nets high in the treetops.[3]
