Dell Demps (born February 12, 1970 in Long Beach, California) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 6'3" guard from the University of the Pacific, Demps was never drafted by an NBA team, but did manage to play in 3 NBA seasons for 3 different teams. He played for the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Orlando Magic. Demps played high school basketball for Mt. Eden High School, Hayward, California.

Early life
Demps' family moved to Hayward, California when he was twelve. He started playing organized basketball in sixth grade. He would often be at the naval base playing ball with another Oakland Legend, Jason Kidd. When he left Mount Eden High School, we was named Academic Player of the Year for Northern California with a 3.8 GPA for his senior year.
Demps then obtained full scholarship from the University of the Pacific, whose basketball program was in a rebuilding period. He earned All-Big West Conference Second Team honors as a sophomore, after leading the team in scoring with an average of 15.9 points per game in 1989-90. He then garnered All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention recognition as a junior in 1990-91, as he once again led the team in scoring while becoming the 19th Tiger to reach the 1,000-point mark. He scored in double figures 24 times in 28 games as a junior and ranked fifth in the Big West Conference in scoring with 18.8 points per contest. Dell had three double-doubles and one triple-double during the 1990-91 season alone. His triple-double included a program record for assists in a single game with 14 against UC Irvine on Jan. 7, 1991, a single game mark that stands to this day.
Demps electrified crowds at the Alex G. Spanos Center as a member of the Pacific men's basketball team from 1988-92. He was a four-year starter, a three-time All-Big West Conference selection, and a two-time team MVP for the Tigers. When he left Pacific, he was named the Big West Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and was an Academic All-American Finalist.[1] Demps closed out his Pacific career in superb fashion, picking up an All-Big West Conference First Team selection as well as a selection to the Academic All-District Team in 1991-92. He currently ranks second on the Pacific career scoring list with 1,742 points and second in the Pacific career record book with 230 three-point field goals. Dell also ranks fourth in the Pacific career record book in assists and ninth in steals. He holds two of the top 14 single season scoring marks in program history, as well as two of the 10 marks for three-pointers made in a season. When he left Pacific, he was named the Big West Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and was an Academic All-American Finalist.[2]
Professional career
Demps started out playing overseas and in the CBA. Demps was an import for the Pepsi franchise of the PBA in 1992. He also played for Shell franchise in 1994. He went on to play a total of 10 years of professional basketball in France, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, and the National Basketball Association. He got his start in the NBA with his hometown Golden State Warriors. In his NBA career, Demps played in 20 games and scored a total of 59 points.
Retirement
Demps became an assistant coach for the NBDL's Mobile Revelers in 2001 and won a title with them in 2003.[3]
Demps also has a Bachelors of Science degree. He spent offseasons taking courses from the University of the Pacific and areceived an MBA in 1998.[3]
Demps was a scout for the New York Knicks for four years starting 2001 before being promoted to Director of Pro Player Personnel. He is credited by Isaiah THomas for finding Jackie Butler. Demps joined the Spurs organization in August 2005 as Director of Pro Player Personnel, where he is am responsible for the NBA and the minor leagues.[4]
Demps went back to the Philippines in 2003 to train the La Salle Green Archers over a four-week period. He has also assisted friend Derek Pumaren in recruiting imports for the PBA. It was Demps who recommended JJ Sullinger to Pumaren.[5]
He currently resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Anita and three children: Jourdan, 15; Tre, 12; and Riley 6.[1] He and his wife, Anita, also own a clothing store in Elk Grove, where the couple resides.[2]
Demps (along with Bruce Bowen) has his suits and shirts made exclusively at “Rich and Famous,” a tailoring shop on the second floor of the Pension Virginia building on Pasay Road, Makati. He's been a customer since the shop opened and has clothes sent him by Pumaren. He orders about 10 suits and 20 shirts, both long and short-sleeved, twice a year.[6]
