Der Arbeiter-Fotograf
Arbeiter-Fotograf, Der, monthly journal of the Association of German Worker-Photographers (Vereinigung der Arbeiterfotografen Deutschlands), founded in Erfurt in 1926 and affiliated to the German Communist Party (KPD). The association's aim was to promote photographic activity among workers and create a source of ‘proletarian’ images—independent of bourgeois agencies—for the Arbeiter illustrierte Zeitung and other KPD papers. The journal, produced in Berlin and distributed to the association's c. 2, 000 members, disseminated technical information and organized exhibitions and competitions. It closed down after the Nazi seizure of power in January 1933.
