Karl III, der Dicke (839-88, Neidingen/Danube), a son of Ludwig II, der Deutsche, was crowned emperor in 881. He acquired the East Frankish (i.e. German) kingdom in 882 and the West Frankish kingdom in 885. He abdicated in 887. He is Charles III of France.
