‘Der siebzigste Geburtstag’

‘siebzigste Geburtstag, Der’, an idyll by J. H. Voß, published in Idyllen (1801). Written in classical hexameters, it depicts the reunion of a family on the seventieth birthday of the grandfather. The son, his young wife, whom the old couple have hitherto not met, and two young grandchildren arrive in the winter snow and in an atmosphere of warm affection.
