A town in the Roman province of Galatia. When Paul and Barnabas visited this province they were not always made welcome, and they even had to flee from Iconium to Derbe and Lystra (Acts 14:1-6). According to the Acts (14:7) they preached the gospel at Derbe; there they also met Timothy, the son of a Jewish mother and a Greek father, whom Paul took along on his journeys (Acts 16:1).
