Desabhimani is a Malayalam newspaper run by Communist Party of India (Marxist). Started as a weekly in 1942 and converted to a daily in 1946. Deshabhimani now has six different editions: Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kottayam and Trichur. V. V. Dakshinamoorthi is the present Chief Editor and P. Jayarajan is the General Manager.
Deshabhimani helped the growth of the Communist Movement in Kerala. It was the only news paper which reported the killing of Naxalite Leader A Varghese in 1969 as a murder committed by police at that time. It was the only Malayalam News Paper which was subjected to undergo pre-sensorship during the emergency period.
Deshabhimani started by the undivided Communist Party. And it is owned by the CPI(M) Communist Party of India (Marxist) now. Journalists worked with the daily include E.M.S.,P.Govindapillai, P. Bhaskaran, K. Mohanan,C.M. Abdurahman,Narikkutty Mohanan,C. P. Achuthan, K. Koya, A. N. Mohandas, C. V. Pappachan, C. P. Narayanan, S. R. Shakthidharan, Prabhavarma, Ravi Kuttikkad, N. P. Chandrasekharan, N. P. Chekkutty, R. Parvathydevi and John Brittas. [1]
