Deux Deux is a fictional character who appeared in The Inspector shorts along with the original Pink Panther shorts produced by David DePatie and Friz Freleng. He is inspired by the character of Hercule LaJoy in A Shot in the Dark.
Pat Harrington, Jr. provided the voice for a Spanish policeman named Deux-Deux (even though "Deux," French for "two," is not a Spanish surname, or even a Spanish word—in Spain, the character was named "Dodó", and in the Mexican dubbing, "Totó").
Deux Deux is the Inspector's loyal sidekick though he is not present in all episodes. A Paris police officer in ordinance uniform, Deux Deux is apparently assigned to the Inspector even though the details and terms of such assignment are never mentioned in the series. Sometimes he will prove his allegiance to the Inspector by lending money to him or by working off duty, even in the small hours. Unlike the Inspector who craves for fame, recognition and prestige, Deux Deux is more mundane and would rather settle for a nice retirement plan. He is more interested in everyday concerns like how sore his feet feel after a long hike.
Ordinary as he may seem, Deux Deux's common sense is admirable, and nearly makes up for his boss's impulsiveness. At times he seems dull, but from time to time, he outshines the Inspector by choosing a simple solution to a problem instead of getting himself pulled into a maze.
In a way, Deux Deux is to the Inspector what Sancho Panza is to Don Quixote: the sensible, common man who follows an idealistic hero in spite of sometimes not fully understanding why.
