Biography

Devante Swing was originally regarded as just another member of neo-R&B act Jodeci until he began branching out into production in the early '90s, first with Jodeci and later with albums by Montell Jordan, K-Ci Hailey, and the harder-edged Death Row-era 2Pac. ~ Steve Kurutz, All Music Guide

DeVante Swing (born Donald Earle DeGrate, Jr, on September 24, 1969 in Hampton, Virginia) is an African American record producer, songwriter, and singer. DeVante got his start as a member of the R&B chart-topping group Jodeci, which helped to define the new jack swing sound during the 1990s. Devante Swing served as the leader, main songwriter and producer for Jodeci which also featured his younger brother Dalvin DeGrate.

DeVante went on to form his own record label, Swing Mob, which signed artists Missy Elliott and Timbaland at the beginning of their careers.
